Who or what is sliding dovetails?
Welcome to sliding dovetails on Squarespace. Sliding dovetails is a one-man woodworking shop run by me, Devin Taylor, located in the Eastern Sierra Nevada near Bishop, California. My background and skillset is made up of a mixture of things. I have spent much of the past >20 years (and still continue) doing fieldwork in places like the Southwest USA, California, Costa Rica, Galapagos-Ecuador, Mexico, the Alaskan Arctic, and a few places inbetween - almost always with bird research projects. When not doing fieldwork (roughly March->August I am “in the field”) or working in schools, I have been expanding my woodworking skillset little-by-little. More recently, I attended the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship (CFC) for 3-months in their furniture intensive course in Maine. I have always enjoyed building and making things, but it was at CFC that I saw and learned about making fine woodwork. While taking classes at the Oregon School of Arts and Craft, as a student at UC Davis who found a second home at the UC Davis Craft Center (where I also taught a few wood classes), and in wood schools such as the Port Townsend School of Woodworking, The Krenov School, or at CFC, I knew making things was part of my “life-work”. Most of the work on this site is smaller scale items offered for sale as a means to share what I make and to help me make a living. If you have specific custom woodwork projects you are interested in, feel free to contact me. I have set up a small portfolio page to show some of my larger wood projects.
*As a note, this site is a work in progress and very new to me, so please excuse its simplicity/glitches for now. thanks.
